Voltalia, through the Karavasta Solar project, is supporting a PhD research programme on the Albanian Water Frog (Pelophylax shqipericus) in cooperation with a leading academic institution in Albania.
The study will monitor frog populations and habitat conditions within and around the Karavasta Solar project area, including water ponds, drainage channels, reference areas, and surrounding habitats. The research will contribute to a better understanding of the species’ distribution, population dynamics, and conservation needs.
The Albanian Water Frog is a species of conservation concern and is classified as Vulnerable by the IUCN Red List. The research programme will support biodiversity monitoring, scientific knowledge, and practical recommendations for long-term conservation.
This initiative reflects Voltalia’s mission to improve the global environment while fostering local development, combining renewable energy production with support for local scientific research and biodiversity protection.
